It wasn't my school.

He wasn't my principal.

But he was an educator, like me.

He cared about kids, like I do.

He dedicated his life to trying his best to bring them up right.

What is this world coming to?

I know. I heard about this as it was happening, and I'm so shocked. I've lived in Wisconsin most of my life, and it's hard to believe this happened just a few hours from where I live now.

One of the negatives of living in America at this time in history seems to be this un-ending trend towards school violence. Whether it's students coming into schools and shooting teachers or other students, or a case like that crazy guy holding those girls hostage and doing God knows what to them before shooting that one poor, sweet girl -- it just makes NO sense that these things continue to happen in our schools.

I guess all you can do as an educator is focus on your own relationship with your students and making it a positive experience for you and for them, something that will have a lasting good impression for them (I still ADORE my high school band teacher!)
